# Compatibility — GivEnergy Insight 1.4.0 for Synology

## DSM compatibility

Minimum package requirement:

The package metadata permits installation on newer DSM releases. The supported
DSM family includes:

Synology may limit newer DSM versions on older NAS models. Install the latest DSM
update officially available for the specific NAS.

## NAS processor compatibility

This download is for Synology's `x86_64` architecture family only:

- Intel 64-bit NAS
- AMD 64-bit NAS
- Example target families include `braswell` and `broadwellnk`
- Example target models include DS916+ and DS3622xs+

The package will not install on ARM-based models. ARMv7 and ARMv8 packages are
not included in this release.

Do not select a package based only on a similar model name. In DSM, open
**Control Panel → Info Center** and confirm the exact model. Package Center also
rejects an incompatible architecture before installation.

## Runtime requirements

- Synology **Node.js v18** package installed
- Node.js v20 is used automatically when already available
- Web Station is not required
- Uses DSM's third-party application directory; no Synology-reserved
  `web-config` resource is requested
- NAS network access to the inverter for local mode
- Internet access only for Cloud API and weather functions

## Inverter compatibility

The local connector is intended for compatible GivEnergy inverters and dongles
that expose the local read-only Modbus interface on TCP port `8899`.

Compatibility can vary by inverter generation, firmware and communication
dongle. If automatic discovery fails, enter the inverter's private IP manually.
The included dummy inverter works without GivEnergy hardware.

## Network requirements

- NAS and inverter must be on the same routed private network
- Local firewalls/VLAN rules must allow NAS-to-inverter TCP port `8899`
- Do not expose port `8899` to the internet
- Do not expose internal app service port `43819`
- Remote browser access should reach DSM, not the inverter
- QuickConnect relay does not support this third-party package; use a direct
  DSM HTTPS/DDNS address or VPN

## Public-beta meaning

The package has passed automated packaging, route, authentication, dummy-inverter
and checksum tests and has completed a successful physical Synology installation.
The complete range of x86_64 NAS models, DSM updates, inverter generations and
network layouts has not yet been tested. Please treat unlisted combinations as
public-beta compatibility testing.
